Plug-in
March 21st, 2008 by Igor Pankov
A plug-in is an independent component that can be added to an existing software program to extend its functionality. The ‘parent’ software must be designed and developed to support a plug-in environment. Plug-in technology allows third-party developers to create custom functionality and embed it in the parent program. Plug-ins are sometimes referred to as extensions or add-ons (for example in the case of Firefox and IE browsers).
