Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
March 12th, 2008 by Igor Pankov
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) - is a networking protocol enabling computers to automatically acquire IP addresses and other parameters (for example, gateway and DNS addresses) necessary to connect to a local network or the Internet. These parameters are assigned by a machine called DHCP server and this automatic configuration simplifies network management by avoiding manual address designation. DHCP servers are present in the majority of Ethernet and WiFi routers and other networking gear.
